Increase Data Quality with Dimension Validations in the Field Validation App

Reliable data is critical to your organization. Your business processes, financial reporting and decision-making all depend on accurate information. But how do you ensure that your data is always accurate? That's where 2-Controlware's Field Validation app comes in.

The Field Validation app provides an easy way to improve your data quality by allowing you to easily apply rules to your data. Whether it's cost centers, project codes or other dimensions.

In this blog, we'll tell you more about dimension validations within the Field Validation app. Find out how to keep your data secure and consistent, and why it's essential to your organization's success!

Validation

With the Field Validation app, you can check not only the content of fields within a table but also dimensions. This way, issues such as incorrectly filled in or missing dimensions are prevented. In many cases, it is difficult to correct these issues afterward.

In our latest version of the Field Validation app, two checks are performed: first, it checks whether the dimension is filled in, and second, it verifies if the combination is allowed. An error message appears in an overview if the dimension validation is not met. This overview indicates why you receive an error message and how you can resolve it.

Setting up validations

Checking for standard dimensions is done at the table level and is a setting in the header of the Field Validation:

Enable the function ‘check standard…’. When this functionality is enabled, not only the fields defined in the rules are validated but also the dimensions.

Before you can validate dimensions, you need to set the dimensions at the table level. You do this by clicking on ‘Standard dimension table setting’ at the top in the ribbon:

Now, a table will appear where you can define the dimensions for the table you are creating the Field Validation for. You do this by filling in the Dimension Code, Dimension Value Code, Value Posting, and optionally the Allowed Values Filter. This way, you perform validations on both the table fields and the set dimensions.
