What is the Filter Protection?
The Filter Security provides the functionality to filter data for users. The set up protections can be implemented for specific users. This is handled by linking the security (filters) to authorization sets. The filter ensures that it is impossible for users to work with other data from the table. The operation of the filters is similar to applying filters in standard Business Central, however, in the Field security app an additional security is applied that prevents users from removing these filters.
You can use filter security to filter in two ways: visible and editable. With a visible filter you can only see the records that fall within the filter and with a editable filter you can see all records, but only create, modify or delete the records that fall within the filter.
Example:
'We want employees in sales department to be allowed to modify only vendors that have the location code YELLOW. '
- Editable: When a filter protection is set up based on editablity it means that users can only modify suppliers with the location code YELLOW.
- Visibility: If a filter protection is set up based on visibility, users will only be able to see suppliers with location code YELLOW in the list.
When do you put the principles to use?
Both principles can be used effectively within an organization.
- The principle based on editability can be adequately deployed if, for example, users are allowed to view the data of purchase or sales documents but are not allowed to modify them.
- The principle based on visibility is adequate for AVG-related information. Think of sensitive information related to files, suppliers or customers.
